Kundalini: The Light Versus the Dark Side

It can be a beautiful experience or your worst nightmare. A good friend in the spiritual community went through a Kundalini experience that lasted for many years. During this time he witnessed an image of his body on the interior wall of a building disappear and be replaced by a white dove. He saw hideous faces peering at him from the walls of his home. At times he thought he was going mad and so did his family. From this, my friend experienced a spiritual awakening that compelled him to start a very successful spiritual organization that continues to this day.

So what is this Kundalini energy? It is an energy force that lies coiled at the base of the spine like a sleeping serpent. A Kundalini awakening can result in deeper meditation, enlightenment and bliss. It can also bring new levels of consciousness and mystical illumination.

My own Kundalini awakening was mild in comparison to my friend’s. Mine, I believe, was triggered by the energy work I was doing at the time, in the early 1990s. I was taking Tai Chi from a Chinese woman who would never refer to herself as a Master, but I saw her as one. I was also practicing intensive meditation as part of my spiritual studies with White Eagle. Plus I was studying Tarot at the time.

Over a period of about two years, I randomly saw auras around trees and people and objects. I recall staring out my kitchen window in awe one morning at the huge oak tree in the backyard. A thick, white light, so bright it pulsated with energy, surrounded the tree. I kept rubbing my eyes and looking back at the tree but this beautiful aura remained for the entire day. Grass and flowers were so bright in color they appeared fluorescent.

One evening while reading, an image appeared in the lens of my glasses: I saw a magnificent structure, similar to a palace, yet the materials and design defied description. That image lasted for at least 30 minutes before disappearing. I got a sense that it was the Great Hall of Wisdom that I glimpsed. During this time my communication with the Spirit World intensified and Spirits visited me regularly. I recalled with great detail my soul travel visits to the Spirit World and wrote about them.

But there was also a darker side to this experience. Like my friend, I too saw hideous faces that zoomed in on me as though they were perched on a swing. Strange as it sounds, those frightening entities were very real and usually showed up at bedtime when I was wide awake. At times I would put the covers over my head and sleep with the light on. And then one night I decided to confront them. When one of these ‘faces’ swung at me, I reached out and touched it. I expected to feel cold air, but instead it was warm. The faces disappeared and never returned. I did however continue to have visits and contact with ‘friendly’ spirits.

I believe that a Kundalini experience opens the Chakras, or energy points in our body, thus intensifying our senses and allowing us to see into other dimensions. When my friend went through his Kundalini experience, there was no help available and little information. Today, people who are undergoing this kind of spiritual awakening can get support and information from the Spiritual Emergence Network (www.spiritualemergence.info). Those individuals who go through a Kundalini experience seem to come out of it with their life purpose clearly etched in their mind. This seems to make the whole Kundalini experience worthwhile.

If you or someone you know is going through a Kundalini awakening, please share your story.

Until the next time…stay grounded in the Light!
